Winter is Fading, Demand is Increasing!

Message from the Manager:

Hello everyone! I’m Kristin Jahne, the new manager at the NK Food Pantry. My journey with the Pantry began as a volunteer in 2023, and since then, I’ve had the privilege of serving in various roles, from part-time assistant to full-time bookkeeper, and now, as manager. I’m incredibly excited to be part of such a meaningful organization and continue to feed and assist our wonderful community in North Kingstown.

As we look ahead, there is still much to be done, but I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to all of our volunteers, community partners, Board of Directors, donors, and supporters. You are the heart and soul of our Pantry, and we truly couldn’t do this important work without you. Thank you for everything you do to help us nourish and support our clients!

Each quarter, I’ll be sharing updates on Pantry news, upcoming events, and highlighting various programs. We also have some exciting news about our future growth and expansion that we’ll be announcing soon—so stay tuned!

- Kristin Jahne, Pantry Manager

State House Visit

Our Pantry staff recently attended Food Insecurity Awareness Day with the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. The event was held at the State House in Providence and aimed to raise awareness of food insecurity while advocating for solutions. We are thankful to have the continued support of our local State Rep, Julie Casimiro!

The recent 2024 Status Report on Hunger from the Rhode Island Community Food Bank revealed that a staggering 38% of Rhode Island households are food insecure.

THURSDAYS IN MARCH - INCREASED SHOPPING

Due to continued demand, we are offering additional monthly shopping appointments every Thursday in March.

To meet the increased need for food within our community, the pantry has added another day of shopping to our already busy week. On Thursdays, we will be open for a full day of shopping appointments in addition to hosting our regular weekly Produce Day Farmers Market.

You must call ahead and make an appointment - 401.885.3663

February 14th was a lovely and heartwarming day at the NK Food Pantry. Special thanks to volunteers Fran, Monika, Jane, Cindy, Tim, Patricia, Mary Ann, Janet, Richard, Nancy and all the others who volunteered this past Valentine's Day. They helped with our Senior Bag Day distribution in the morning and our Vacation Nutrition Program distribution in the afternoon!

Recipe of the Month

In March, we’re featuring a delicious and classic Chicken Noodle Soup! It’s a well-balanced meal packed with vitamins, fiber, and protein. Not only is it easy to make, but all the ingredients are available at the NK Food Pantry, so you can pick them up and recreate this tasty dish anytime.

St. Bernard Church

Soup-er Bowl Soup Drive

Some cheered for the Chiefs, some for the Eagles, but this Superbowl, the pantry cheered for St. Bernard Church! They donated over 1000 cans of soup as part of their "Soup-er Bowl" campaign. Our volunteer Tony helped load in all the boxes from our dedicated community partner, Rev. David Gaffney. A win all the way around!
